UPPER GRADES
7th and Up

Our primary goal for the students in our Upper School is to spur them on in pursuit of Jesus and to help prepare them for the good work that He has designed for them to do. While college is not always necessary to do meaningful work, we want to give our students an education that will prepare them for college, should they choose that route.

Rooted’s goal is to make learning as interesting and engaging as possible, and also to develop the discipline of hard work and time management that are required for college level coursework. We value rigor and depth of content, but we are not talking about quantity- overwhelming loads of work that kill a love for learning. We aim for purposeful assignments and learning opportunities.

Small classes will be made up of 7th/8th graders and then 9th and up. Students will meet on campus two days a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9am to 2:30pm. All parents will be required to sign a Family Agreement in which they consent to Rooted Collaborative’s mission, policies, and expectations.

On campus days, students will meet to work on core classes with knowledgable teachers and tutors. For math, students will bring their own curriculum to work on with a tutor during Math Lab. Any hands-on labs for science will happen on class days. On home days, students will have some assignments to complete in preparation for their next class day as well as any supplemental subjects as chosen by parents.

Phonics Instruction for emergent readers
Developing rich personal reading lives and family reading lives

Completing assignments for Rooted meeting days
Supplemental science (one or more days)

History- Notgrass, Beautiful Feet

Literature- Classics, biographies, and living books that support historical context being studied

Science- The Good and the Beautiful

Writing- IEW Fix-it Grammar and Spelling, The Art of Composition by Simply Charlotte Mason

Math- Parent provided

Online courses may be utilized, but will not be the bulk of the learning.

Other opportunities

Leadership opportunities will be available to high school students through establishing clubs and community service projects.
Intellectual curiosity will be fostered through student selected projects that will demonstrate passion for learning and in-depth research.
For juniors and seniors, college selection guidance and SAT prep will be provided as needed.

Rubrics provided with feedback to monitor growth and set learning goals
Report cards or transcripts provided upon request
October- Optional parent/teacher conferences
Portfolios- Students document work and abilities in a portfolio to be shared at the end of the school year
